3. Pope – Young Custom Shoot
This round was shot for the first time (as the Art Young Round) at the 1936 National Tournament.
The ranges - which have been reduced in ratio to suit the field – run from approximately 15Yds to 35Yds.
Six 24inch (600mm) targets are set in an arc elevated between 1Ft to 4Ft above the ground. Designated A to F.
Six Shooting Stations are arranged in an arc. Designated 1 to 6.
The round comprises 36 arrows - 6 ends x 6 arrows.
The archer goes to station 1 and shoots six arrows - one at Target A, one at Target B and so on to Target F.
The archer is allowed 45 seconds to shoot the 6 arrows of the end.
When the whistle blows shooting stops, scores taken and arrows retrieved.
The archer now moves to the next station and shoots another six arrows in the same fashion, one arrow at each target.
Each end is shot from a new station in the same manner until the archer has shot at all targets from each station (36 shots in all).
When a large number of archers are shooting they should be divided into 6 even groups, each group starting from a different station.
After the first end is shot, scored and retrieved, the groups move to the next station – 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and so on with 6 to 1.
To avoid arrows crossing in flight, each station can shoot in turn – controlled by line captain. As each archer has only 45 seconds to shoot, each end will still be less than 5 minutes.
To level the field, Snake bows will be used for this round
