3 Community Service Update
All clubs are required to complete 3 community service (CS) activities, only one of these activities may be a donation Failure to submit three community service logs by the last Friday in April each academic year will result in a 33% deduction in a club’s allocated funding for the following academic year Non-funded clubs are responsible for one community service activity each year and must follow the submission due dates as described above Click here for a full listing of CS policies and procedures Click here to download CS approval form

5 Meeting your Club’s CS Requirement: Two Feet of Social Ministry
Community Service/Direct Service/Charitable Works Social Justice Not either-or; both when talking about the two feet of social ministry Campus Ministries’ Center for Service & Social Justice

6 Community Service Community Service refers to a service activity that benefits the community and responds to a need It is often directed at the effects/symptoms of injustice Examples: food drives, animal shelters, soup kitchens, food pantries, after- school programs, nursing homes, collections, etc. Most of the service requirements that are filled by clubs are considered community service

8 Social Justice Deals with long-term solutions, root causes of injustice, institutional change Promoting a just society by challenging injustice and valuing diversity Support for human rights

9 Social Justice Opportunities Take your passion for a cause and make a systemic change
Refugee Simulation – Friday, February 26, 3:00-5:30pm, TDC Ballroom. Takes 20 minutes! Refugee Dinner Visit, , call, write your senators and congress people Advocacy, lobbying, educating for justice, community organizing Many issues…fair trade, environment, immigration reform, US policy in Central America, racism, etc., etc., etc.! Examples from CRS Student Ambassadors and Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice

10 – 15 friends, family, neighbors, etc. PER STUDENT Google Form Link: Follow the format! Tell us when it’s ready.

15 Step 3: Sign, Seal, Deliver
Two signing options: Personalized (recommended) You pick up the printed letters Each student signs and adds a personal note Drop them back off with us to be mailed *All or nothing rule* Electronic We add an electronic signature, print and mail
