Historical Timeline (highlights)
1960: Iran, along with Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela, found the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to consolidate power over the oil industry, a main financial resource for all the countries. 1961: Shah begins reforms called the “White Revolution” under guidelines pushed by Kennedy administration. 1963: Ayatollah Khomeini rises to power, protesting the Shah’s rule and US involvement in Iran. 1979: The Islamic Revolution begins Please read through the timeline created by “2010 One Book One Philadephia” which compares historical events with the events from Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel.

A first-hand account of what it is like to grow up in Iran. Graphic novel = literary form of comic book. The title refers to the ancient capital of Persia (modern day Iran).
