Few words about Ukraine Ukraine -is a country in Eastern Europe
Few words about Ukraine Ukraine -is a country in Eastern Europe. Ukraine borders the Russian Federation to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, Romania and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast, respectively. It has an area of 603,628 km2 (233,062 sq mi), making it the largest country entirely within Europe. According to a popular and well established theory, the medieval state of Kievan Rus was established by the Varangians in the 9th century as the first historically recorded East Slavic state. It emerged as a powerful nation in the Middle Ages but disintegrated in the 12th century. During World War II the Ukrainian Insurgent Army tried to reestablish Ukrainian independence and fought against both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. But in 1941 Ukraine was occupied by Nazi Germany, being liberated in In 1945, the Ukrainian SSR became one of the founding members of the United Nations. In 1954, it expanded to the south with the transfer of the Crimea. Ukraine became independent again when the Soviet Union dissolved in This dissolution started a period of transition to a market economy, in which Ukraine suffered an eight-year recession. Since then, however, the economy has experienced a high increase in GDP growth. Ukraine is a unitary state composed of 24 oblasts (provinces), one autonomous republic (Crimea), and two cities with special status: Kiev, its capital and largest city, and Sevastopol, which houses the Russian Black Sea Fleet under a leasing agreement. Ukraine continues to maintain the second-largest military in Europe, after that of Russia. The country is home to 46 million people, 77.8 percent of whom are ethnic Ukrainians, with sizable minorities of Russians (17%), Belarusians and Romanians. Ukrainian is the official language of Ukraine; its alphabet is Cyrillic. Russian is also widely spoken. The dominant religion in the country is Eastern Orthodox Christianity, which has strongly influenced Ukrainian architecture, literature and music.

Kiev

Kiev Few words about Kyiv KYIV is a gateway to Ukraine and is still the easiest city to travel to the country. As the capital and the largest city, it usually grants visitors their first impressions of Ukraine. The simple fact remains that there is an amazing amount to see and to do in this city. Without any exaggeration, it is one of the most majestic and greenest cities of Europe. Flowering chestnut trees cover the streets for half of the year, and during this time, no other city could seem so green and full of beauty. The capital of Ukraine boasts both the tranquillity of an ancient city and the frenzy of a newly independent nation. The harmony of modern constructions and historical architecture, the greenery of its many parks together create a unique and refined aura. The panoramic tour features familiarization with the main city attractions: building of the Parliament of Ukraine, Independence Square, National University, Opera House, St Volodymyr’s Cathedral, Golden Gate.

Odessa

Odessa Few words about Odessa Odessa is also a king of the catacombs with over 100km of tunnels dug into the sandstone the city stands on. It’s the back entrance into Odessa’s more secretive past. The Odessa catacombs are unlike those in Western Europe, as they are all manmade and relatively new. Instead of piling up people’s bones, these tunnels were used for all the city’s clandestine activities, which have been numerous. At only 200 years old, Odessa is one of Europe’s younger cities with the neo-classical buildings that date back to the Russia’s gilded age. In 1803 Tsar Alexander I committed the governorship of the city to Duke de Richelieu. The governor slashed trade duties and officially dedicated one-fifth of the port’s income to “making the city beautiful”, a task in which he was successful. Granted the status of a free port in 1815, Odessa swiftly rose to the third place in the Russian Empire after Moscow and St Petersburg.

Lviv

Lviv Few words about Lviv Ukraine’s the most elegant city, beautiful and eclectic monument to art and history. Amongs L’viv’s open squares and historical extremely narrow streets, visitors will recognize bits of Paris, Florence, Krakow, and Vienna. Prince Danylo of Halychyna (Galicia) has founded the city and named it in honor of his son Leo, hence the name L’viv from the root for “lion”. The prince built his castle at the top of the conical-shaped hill, known today as Vysoky Zamok (High Castle) – from where one can view the magnificent panorama of the entire city that has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
