2. What is Dual Credit?
Courses offered for dual credit stem from agreements between high schools, universities and community colleges whereby a high school student enrolls in a college course and simultaneously earns college credit and high school credit for the course. Partnerships between Texas secondary schools and Texas colleges and universities have enabled high school students to earn college credits before graduating from high school, making their transition to the collegiate campus smoother and their likelihood of graduating from college greater.

3. What are the Benefits of Dual Credit?
Full or partial tuition scholarship for eligible courses
Provides a head start on postsecondary core requirements
Allows access to college facilities & activities
Lowers the cost of college
Serves as a “controlled” introduction to college life
Allows for an easier transition to college
Builds student confidence and self-esteem

4. How does Dual Credit Affect Your Future?
Receive college credit that is transferable to all Texas public colleges and universities
Credits may transfer to private and out-of-state institutions
Potentially save thousands of dollars in tuition and decrease the amount of debt you may accrue.

Anticipated available college credits = 52 Credit Hours

6. Who is Eligible for Dual Credit?
High School students in good academic standing enrolled at a participating public, private, charter, or home school.  
Students with approval from their high school counselor.  
Students admitted to the college who meet minimum test scores.

7. What are the Minimum Test Scores?
Students entering Eastfield College must meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements in the subject areas of reading, writing and/or math. 
The required subject areas are determined by the course(s) to be taken.
Math – 350
Reading – 351
Writing – 363 plus essay score of 4 OR 350 plus essay score of 5

8. Are there Exemptions for the TSI?

500 Critical Reading, 500 Math with a composite score of 1070
New 2016 SAT Scores (Tests Administered after March 5, 2016)

9. How do Students Enroll?
Complete the Online Dual Credit Admissions Application by visiting
Create an eConnect account
Complete the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) through eConnect
Meet TSI required scores or submit proof of TSI Exemption
Complete the Dual Credit Enrollment Packet

10. What does the Dual Credit Enrollment Packet Contain?
High School Enrollment Form
DCCCD Consent to Emergency Treatment Form
Official High School Transcript
Parent/Guardian FERPA Release and Registration by Proxy Form For Dual Credit
Vaccination against Bacterial Meningitis (if student plans to take any classes on the EFC campus)
Affidavit of Intent to become a Permanent Resident (if student is classified as undocumented)
Please note: Incomplete enrollment packets will not be processed
Could result in ineligibility for DC courses for the semester requested

11. How will Dual Credit look for Forney ISD Students?
Students will sign up for DC courses with their high school counselors
Students will pay in-district tuition of $59 per credit hour
EFC professors will come to high school during regular school day

12. What are the Dual Credit Course Requirements and Expectations?
Students must adhere to the EFC Student Code of Conduct
Instructors will distribute syllabi to students for each course. These syllabi will also be posted on the EFC website
Students must complete all assignments according to published deadlines
All course issues must be resolved between the student and instructor – parents are not to contact instructors on behalf of the students
Students must maintain Good Academic Standing (2.0 GPA or above)

13. Why is it Important for Students to take Dual Credit Courses Seriously?
Dual Credit courses are a permanent component of a student’s academic record
Dual Credit course grades can impact students’ GPAs for scholarships and other programs
Dual Credit performance could impact student acceptance into 4-year institutions

14. What Resources are Available to Support DC Academic Success?
Dual Credit students are invited and encouraged to visit the EFC Tutoring Labs and library
Students are encouraged to maintain regular contact with their instructors

15. What Happens to a Student who does not Maintain Good Academic Standing?
If a student’s EFC GPA falls below a 2.0, the student will be placed on Academic Probation
Students on Academic Probation must complete a Probation Contract and meet specific requirements in order for the probation status to be lifted
Students remain on Academic Probation until their cumulative EFC GPA rises to a 2.0
Students who do not meet the 2.0 GPA requirement while on Academic Probation will be placed on Suspension for the next semester

16. What are some Important Academic Policies?
6-Drop Rule
DCCCD or any other Texas Public institution of higher education may not permit students to drop more than six college level credit courses for unacceptable reasons during their entire undergraduate career without penalty.
Withdrawals
When a student withdraws from a course after the official semester census date and is awarded a "W", the course counts as an attempt.

17. Can Students Enroll in EFC Courses Not Offered by the High School?
Students can take EFC courses outside of the High School through CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT
Concurrent Enrollment is a program much like Dual Credit except, high school credit is not earned. However, you still get a head start on college by earning college credit while attending high school.
Students must still receive counselor approval to enroll
Families must provide transportation to the campus
Families must pay the full tuition associated with the course
