2 Meet Mrs. Cunningham Fourth year at Catoctin, 18th year of teaching
Graduate of James Madison and George Mason Have lived in beautiful Virginia my entire life Have two children 2nd grade and 4th grade

3 A day in the life of a 2nd grader…

4 Arrival to School Arrival Time: 7:35-7:50 a.m.

5 Early Sign Out/Dismissal
If you know your child will be leaving early, please send a note or . Sign your child out from the front office. The office will notify the classroom.

The school will communicate with a weekly e-newsletter each Thursday. Please make sure your is up to date with LCPS.

8 Communicating with the class Class directory
We will have a class directory with contact information for any families who would like to participate. Class directory forms were available during Open House. Please let me know if you need another. Volunteer(s) will have the directory available soon!

Visiting Catoctin Volunteering? Lunch date? Here’s what you need to know! Press the buzzer to gain entrance. Always be prepared with photo identification. Wear your volunteer badge when on campus.

13 Library One of our fabulous specials!
Our library class is Friday morning with Mr. Shannon and Mrs. Moats. Each child may check out 2 books each library visit. Children may visit the library as needed, not just on Fridays.

15 Snacks Everyone’s favorite part of the day!
The students will have a snack each afternoon. Healthy snack choices are strongly encouraged. Spill-proof water bottles please!

16 Homework A homework packet will come home at the beginning of the week and is due Friday. Homework is meant to review concepts already practiced in school and should take no longer than 30 minutes each night. Weekly homework schedule Monday: Sort words, then write words in color Tuesday: Sort words, then write 5 sentences using words Wednesday: Math review page Thursday: Sort words, then practice test

17 Curriculum What will we study this year?
The units of study we are covering will be listed in our weekly newsletter. A link to the Loudoun County Curriculum Guide can be found on our website. The Virginia SOLs can be found on the Virginia Department of Education website.

E/4= exceeds the standard M/3=meets the standard P/2=progressing toward the standard B/1= below the standard

19 Phoenix View grades here!
Phoenix is our online grade book. Parents can view your child’s grades through the parent portal. Parents must request access to Phoenix in order to view grades. More information will be sent about the opening of the Phoenix portal. Students will participate in formative and summative assessments throughout the year.

22 Reading & Writing Word Study
Beginning mid-September, students will be assigned word study words every Monday. We will have word study tests every Friday. Your child will also be responsible for three sight words to study each week. Weekly word study words are given based on each student’s level of development. Word study practice is conducted each day in the classroom. Words are sorted by word features. Word study practice will be included in the weekly homework packet.

All medications (this includes over the counter meds) must be brought to the clinic by a parent.

26 Class Parties Let’s celebrate!
Three classroom parties per year to include: Winter Holidays Valentine’s Day End of the Year Healthy snacks are encouraged at our parties. Please let me know if you would like to help plan our parties.

27 Birthdays & Invitations “Happy birthday to you…”
We celebrate birthdays and sing happy birthday songs! Students may pass out birthday party invitations IF they have invitations for all students in the class. We do not pass out food items in the classroom.

28 Daily Folder Goes home every night, comes back every morning!
Please check your child’s red daily folder every night. This folder should come back to school each day. Planners will be used to inform and remind. Spelling word lists will be written in planners each Monday.

29 Dismissal Time to go home!
Dismissal Time: 2:35 p.m. First and second load buses Double check your student’s bus assignment in Parent Vue, then check Student Information link If your student will be going home a different way, a note MUST be sent that day.

30 One Last Reminder… Check your child’s daily folder
Dismissal changes should be communicated in daily folder Ensure that your is updated in LCPS system or call with any concerns Provide your child with a nightly routine and quiet place to do homework
