Technology Roadmap Aged Care Quality Association
2
Firstly, Introductions…
3
Who is Steve Charman? I am the Managing Director of Active Quality
I have a Bachelors Degree in Computing Science I love technology and I’m a documentary nerd My mum was a Nurse and NUM before she retired My wife is a Nurse and now a Quality Manager
4
Who is Active Quality? Technology partner to ACQA
Partnered with ACQA for the past 5 years Develops the software for the ACQA platform Keeps the platform running day-to-day Supports users day-to-day on the platform
5
What have we learnt so far?
Feedback from members
6
Member Compliments Software is easy to use, easy to learn for new staff Effective in meeting expected outcomes for the agency Useful particularly for spot visits Like that it’s web based, ability to access from home Like that it’s Aged-care-specific, relevant
7
Member Suggestions Less clicking through pages to approve forms and audits Ability to benchmark if you don’t use the whole system Ability to delete forms and manage their own users Better printing of reports/graphs Members want more colour!
8
New Software Coming! More on that soon…
9
What are we trying to do? Our vision and values
10
Vision and Mission Our vision is to create simple, beautiful software that is easy to use and that inspires your organisation to find, implement, measure and reward great ideas and opportunities for improvement. Our mission: To change the face of your organisation one measurable improvement at a time.
11
Our values Less critical, right/wrong, pass/fail; More optimistic, supportive, encouraging Less verbose, complex, rigid, frustrating, time consuming; More quick, simple, beautiful, insightful, useful Less controlling, mandated, directive; More open, transparent, collaborative Less old, musty, manila folders and buff coloured paper; More youthful, fresh, bright, colourful Less headmaster; More coach
12
So how does that work then?
The wardsman story.
14
How are we going to do it? The technology roadmap

Machine Learning Enhanced Analytics
28
How do humans learn? Learn by observation Learn by repetition
Learn by instruction Learn by experience
29
Machine Learning mimics Human Learning
Computers are learning by observation too Training data with features and outcomes Predictive Analytics Genetic Algorithms Neural Networks Results in an intuitive analysis and modelling Goal: Insight over information
30
What does that mean for me?
What if, in addition to traditional statistical analysis, we can create software that analyses data intuitively? What if the software can learn to help you identify the best areas to focus your attention for improvement? What if the software can intuitively identify improvements from other users and learn what works and what doesn’t? These are some of the things we are working on.
31
New Software Rollout More information coming….
32
New Software Rollout Beta testing happening now, Wheatfields and Barossa Village All your data will be imported from the old site to the new site Live Demo available now. to Request a Demo Training will be provided prior to rollout Full rollout schedule to be announced – stay tuned!
33
What next? Good question…
34
What next? Making providers lives easier: For some of you, quality is part of your job but it’s not your primary passion. At the very least, hopefully we make life easier for you. Volunteer Board Members: For some of you, today has inspired you and you are burning to work with others who are this passionate about Quality. ACQA is your opportunity to get involved, learn, grow, develop and contribute beyond your own facility. Talk to Matt if you want to get more involved.
35
What next? ACQA is a member-based organization, and relies on the active participation of members to grow and succeed Most members have been introduced to ACQA by other members Are you connected with other Aged Care facilities who could benefit from joining ACQA? We would value a warm introduction – talk to Gail.
36
Questions and Answers We love feedback!
