Strategic role: Positive advocate for NE in Devon Internal focus External influence Overarching strategic role as a positive advocate for the natural environment in Devon Having both an external and “inward” focus: Raising awareness, understanding and influencing decision makers among business, community and society as a whole Being a single voice for Devon’s environment, building partnerships, moderating and reducing duplication within sector Key issue is doing something positive

Close working with business, community, VCS (health + inclusion) and public sector Increasing awareness of sustainable development + environmental matters Highlighting benefits of green development and value of natural assets Making a difference: Raising awareness, understanding and influencing decision makers Raising awareness, understanding and influencing decision makers among business, community and society as a whole – making a difference! Developing a positive close working relationship with LEP, community, VCS (health, social inclusion), public sector Increasing environmental awareness and knowledge of what is a sustainable economy among decision makers Highlighting the benefits of green developments and the significance/value of our natural assets Being first “point of call” for Devon’s natural environment Being first “point of call” for sector

Providing a clear lead for sector, based on consensus and partnership Providing a moderating role to reduce competition and increase cooperation Increasing collaboration and efficiencies by reducing duplication Providing unity: Being a single, cohesive voice for Devon’s Natural Environment Being a single voice for Devon’s environment, building partnerships, moderating and reducing duplication in sector Providing a clear lead for the natural environment sector based on partnership working and consensus Providing a moderating role to reduce competition for funding within the sector and improve efficiency Reducing duplication across sector by increasing collaboration and cooperation Cultivate a wide “community of interest” group/forum that is fully engaged when needed Cultivating wide community of interest forum

Steering Group Wide consultative forum Working group 1 Working group 2 Working group 3 Consensus on Devon board level Steering group (with teeth, ability to do something), Informed by wide forum based on community of interest, With task and finish working groups addressing themes or areas But then debate on: Feeding down to existing delivery partnerships What about about gap areas? Or even pyramid going all the way to district council level….?

Core membership of Steering Group: Environment (landscape and biodiversity) Public sector (economy, planning and health) VCS (community, health and inclusion) Business/LEP (key sectors) Other members to be proposed: Heritage? Others as agreed

Suggested priorities for LNP internal role: Bringing environmental organisations together with partnership working and consensus Reducing competition between organisations for funding and support Identifying areas where collaboration and cooperation would bring efficiencies and benefits Networking and support role for sector Clarity over vision and aims for “Devon environment” Forum for debate and “blue sky thinking”

Suggested priorities for LNP external role: Getting sustainable development on agenda A set of planning policies reflecting LNP’s agenda Getting Green Economy to punch (above) its weight Interfacing with people/business/VCS/public sector To increase awareness and understanding of the natural environment To improve influence among decision makers A coherent support package for landowners Creating Ecosystems Services board for Devon

Suggested “visions” for LNP: Bringing equality of access to nature Enabling the LEP to be the “greenest LEP” Being the strategic environmental lead countywide To deliver a landscape that provides for all services To benefit the health, wellbeing and education of the whole community To become the Environmental Development Corporation for Devon

Green Economy How do we define it? What are the priorities for developing Devon’s Green Economy? How do we mitigate the weaknesses /threats to Green Economy? Role of Natural Environment How can we better trade the benefits with business, society et al? How can we realign resources/grow business opportunities? How can we develop an economy better reflecting cost to NE? LNP What is its role/value? What is the best structure/membership? What should be its vision and priorities?
