Vidin- Our town, Our pride!

Vidin is one of the oldest towns along the Bulgarian Danube bank.
Vidin emerged at the place of an old Thracian settlement known as Dunonia ("fortified hill") The Romans called it Bononia. When Slavs settled in the area, they called the town Badin or Bdin, where its modern name comes from.

The ancient fortress Baba Vida - the town's primary landmark!
It’s the only authentic and fully preserved Medieval castle in Bulgaria with a past as both a military fortress and a ruler’s residence.

The St. Dimitar's Cathedral
It is the second biggest cathedral in Bulgaria after The St.Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia.

Vidin is a town in which spiritual temples of the Christian, Jewish and Moslem religions are built.

The Konaka Museum The Turkish Konak was built in the second half of the 18th century. Originally the building was used as a police office department. In 1956 the building was transformed into a part of the Historical Museum in Vidin.

The Cruciform Barracks Museum
Krastata Kazarma (the cruciform barracks) was built in 1801. At present, it houses the ethnographic exposition of the History Museum.
