Presentation to: The United States of America’s Congress Department of Education Department of Justice

Introduction: Forensic science is a field of science and law. It is the use of science in legal matters. It is translated to the science of the people. (Connection to Earth Science is the Biosphere with the life forms living on it- people.) There are many jobs in the Forensic Science field. Including but not limited to: Forensic Pathologist, Crime Scene Investigator, Forensic Scientist and Technician.

RESEARCH

Flaws in Forensic Science:
There are a few problems that have occurred in the past with forensic science. There have been many cases of falsely analyzed evidence convicting the wrong people. The first that started the change of forensic science, was hair evidence. They started the Innocence Project, which goes through cases that uses hair analysis evidence as the major evidence and reviewing it to make sure the right people are in prison for their crimes. They have also found problems with other forms of evidence and have starte going through and reviewing other cases and releasing some innocent people. This is a major flaw of Forensic Science.

Flaws in Forensic Science:
Another flaw is the problem with schooling. They have adequate techniques but do not have the people with enough training to use these techniques accurately and correctly. They have had problems with the oversight of evidence and the standardization of the data that makes these pieces of evidence flawed. The USA and other federations are trying to set up regulations throughout the world on standardized techniques and skill levels.

THE ISSUE

Primary Issue: The training of forensic scientists isn’t adequate and leads to wrongly convicted people, through over looked evidence or not being skilled enough to perform the correct techniques.

THE SOLUTION

The Solution: Increase government funding to the schooling and training of forensic scientists to increase accuracy and consistency of the investigations to have less mistakes in the field and less wrongly convicted people go to prison. Salaries: One Actor who played a CSI: $5.5 million a season Actual CSI: $57,340 annually Actor=95.91 x Actual CSI So, you could hire 95, real trainable CSIs instead of paying one actor to portray one for one season

THE PROPOSAL

My Proposal: Continue the Innocence Project and invest more money into it. Invest and spend more money on the training of forensic scientists. Continue to set regulations to keep the forensic science division of science accurate and validated, with shared and regulated training, resources, and techniques.
