3. ConnecTech
Launched in 2013 at Bioscan company in Ward 3. Grant partnership with the US. Small Business Administration
ConnecTech is designed to assist small, District-based technology firms with connecting to technology opportunities. The signature initiative of ConnecTech is an effort, funded in partnership with the US Small Business Administration (SBA) to assist small businesses with competing for federal commercialization opportunities through the Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.
The District ranks in the bottom 3rd among state jurisdictions in the number and dollar amount of received SBIR/STTR awards. ConnecTech aims to bring these tech opportunities to the District.
ConnecTech Mission: Diversifying the District of Columbia economy; Maturing an environment for technology‐focused businesses to thrive in the District of Columbia; Providing support services to foster the successful capture of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program awards by companies based in the District of Columbia.

8. DC Tech Community Highlights
The DC Metro region ranks as the nation's fifth leading center for venture investment according to our zip code level data, attracting $1.1 billion in 2011 (The Atlantic Cities)
nearly half of the region's total (47.5 percent), or $600 million, went to the District of Columbia proper.
Most of that was concentrated in a single zip code (20005) that spans McPherson Square, Thomas Circle and Logan Circle.

9. ConnecTech Early Successes
Since beginning in earnest in April, ConnecTech has had early success that validates the program’s value proposition
Executed a marketing campaign that included establishing contacts at area universities
Formed relationships with incubators and accelerators in the District
Addressed more than 500 entrepreneurs through DC Tech Meetup Events
Hosted first SBIR Workshop and received 75 registrations and more than 45 attendees, including an SBIR program manager
Counseled more than 65 potential SBIR companies
Entered conversations with two embassies about technology programs
Hosted an Innovation Conference at the Fab Lab with more than 100 participants
