What is the FSA? The Florida Standards Assessment (FSA)
FSA is an authentic assessment that includes more than just multiple choice questions. Students will be expected to respond to multiple choice questions, create graphs, write and respond in different ways than on other traditional tests. Will prepare Florida students for success in college, career, and in life by emphasizing analytical thinking.

What is the FSA? The Florida Standards Assessment (FSA)
Measures student mastery of the standards taught. Meets high quality standards for assessment, including reliability and validity or a variety of accountability purposes. Emphasizes critical thinking.

FSA Test Dates English Language Arts (Reading) Assessment (Paper)
Tuesday, March 28th & Wednesday, March 29th Mathematics Assessment (Online) Wednesday, April 19th and Thursday, April 20th Friday, April 21th and Monday, April 24th

Testing Specifics For ELA grades 3–5, there are 56–60 items
For Math grades 3-5, there are items. Each testing session is 80 minutes (4 sessions) Sessions are paper based for Reading and computer based for Mathematics Grade 3 will not be assessed in writing.

Number of Words per Passage
The length and complexity of texts should vary within each grade- level assessment. The table below suggests an approximate word count range for a text or text set.

FSA Achievement Levels
“The success a student has achieved with the Florida Standards will be assessed by FSA ELA and Mathematics assessments and is described by Achievement Levels that range from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest). Level 3 indicates satisfactory performance. The level of performance required to score in each Achievement Level will be established prior to the spring 2017 administration.” (Source: FLDOE FSA ELA and Mathematics Fact Sheet, November 2014)

Promotion Requirements
3rd Grade Promotion Criteria: Student scores a Level 2 or greater on the statewide ELA assessment. Further questions in regards to promotion can be directed to the testing coordinator Ann Matthews or Assistant Principal Kristi Jarvis.

Limited English Proficient (LEP) who meet certain conditions
Some third graders who score Level 1 on the English Language Arts assessment can be exempted from the retention requirement and be promoted to fourth grade. This is called a good cause exemption. Good cause exemptions are given only to the following students: Limited English Proficient (LEP) who meet certain conditions Students with disabilities who have and Individual Educational Plan (IEP) who meet certain conditions Students who have received intensive documented reading intervention for two or more years and previously retained Please contact your child’s teacher if you feel you child falls into one of these categories.

How can I help my child at home?
Ask your child about school and visit school website. Help infuse what is being learned in class at home. iReady, IXL, Think Central READ with your children at least 30 minutes each day. Ask them about the story they are reading. Use practice tests on the FSA portal website: Use this website to read about updates and view sample/practice tests. Students can then use the books read at home, and take tests at school using Accelerated Reader (AR) program.
