2 Freak the Mighty Kevin suffers from a disorder known as Morquio's syndrome, which weakens his heart and stunts his growth. Maxwell has dyslexia and towers above his classmates. The two couldn't be more different, but, when Kevin is asked to help Maxwell with his reading, they soon bond over their mutual social alienation and absent fathers. Following a run-in with local gang member Blade, the two become inseparable.

3 A Mango Shaped Space Mia sees colors and shapes with every sound and letter, and she's in the third grade when she discovers that not everyone sees the world as she does. She struggles through the ridicule of her classmates and hides her secret from everyone, including her family and her best friend, Jenna. Her life is good with one major exception – math. She struggles to get past the colors the numbers evoke in her head and can't do any complex math. When she enters eighth grade, she also begins to struggle with Spanish because the colors and shapes of Spanish words don't match their English counterparts. When her struggles in math become too much, Mia finally tells her parents her problem. They are skeptical only for a short time before they set out to find out what's wrong.

4 Heaven Marley was a perfectly happy 14- year-old until she discovered that the people she thought were her parents are actually her aunt and uncle, and that her Uncle Jack is her biological father. As she redefines who she is, and who her family is, Marley becomes an astute observer of other families and their relationships with one another. By seeing the love between other families, she knows that the love of her parents for her is genuine.

Gordy couldn't be less happy about moving back to his old hometown of College Hill, Maryland, where everybody knows his family's troubled history.  In North Carolina, Gordy's life was finally on the right track.  Back in College Hill, Gordy and his sister, June, must move into a cramped apartment with their brother Stu and his new family.  The principal at Gordy's school has it in for him, his pals encourage him to cause trouble, and his old rival, Elizabeth, can't see that he's changed.  The whole world seems to be against Gordy.  Is Gordy destined to slip back into his old trouble-making ways for good?

When a mysterious word in her mother's vocabulary begins to haunt her, Heidi's thirst for the truth leads her on a cross-country journey in search of the secrets of her past.
