Research Lab skills 15 credits 30 hours contact teaching Aims: Teaching basic laboratory techniques

Cancer Biology 15 credits 30 contact hours Series of lectures and presentations Focusing on molecular and cellular biology, and how it goes wrong in cancer

Basic Pathology 15 credits 30 contact hours Series of lectures and practical sessions Focusing on basic mechanisms of disease and introduction to histology and histopathology

Semester 2: Option Modules
Introduction to Bioinformatics Biological Therapies (max of 5 students) Minimum of 5 students per Option Will be asked to choose mid-semester 1

Assessments In-course assessment: Exam:
Research methods: statistics questions, poster. Research lab skills: practical write ups Cancer Biology: dissertation + presentation Basic Pathology: practical write-up + presentation Exam: MCQ + SAQ RSS includes data interpretation 1st week 2nd semester Usually 60:40 split exam:coursework

Plagiarism When a writer deliberately uses someone else’s ideas, language or other original material without acknowledging its source. Frequently a result of misuse of source or poor referencing. Includes thesuarus plagiarism It will be penalised!

Assessments To pass MSc must have average >50%
Allowed to condone 2 units (>40% <50%) If fail more than 2 units can resit end of academic year (August) To progress to the lab project must have average >50% and passed 6 units

Project 60 credits; 12 weeks 5 000 words Full-time
Choose mid semester 2 Most based in BCI Supervisor usually teaches on course

Awards MSc: 180 credits Average >50% Must pass dissertation
PG Diploma: 120 credits PG Certificate 60 credits

Awards MSc grade boundaries:
>70.0% overall and >65.0% in project = Distinction % overall = Merit % overall = Pass
