The Tudors Reformation in England

2 King Henry VIII King Henry ruled from 1509-1547
He was an opponent of Luther's religious beliefs and was awarded ‘Defender of the Faith’ by the pope He had six wife's ; He is well known for creating his own church because he wasn’t allowed to divorce Catherine of Aragon ( his first wife) by the catholic church He died at the age of 55 He had three children: Mary, Elizabeth and Edward

3 The Kings Great Matter King Henry was married to Catherine of Aragon when he had fallen in love with Anne Boleyn. He wanted a son and Catherine was too old to have any more children. King henry had to file for a divorce so he could marry Anne Boleyn. However the Catholic Church did not permit the divorce so king henry started his own church just so he could get his own way. Pope Clement VII actually wanted to agree to the divorce but he was in a difficult situation as Catherines nephew was the Holy Roman Emperor

4 Henry’s Six Wife’s 1.Catherine of Aragon was the first of six wife’s of King Henrys. He then fell in love with Anne Boleyn and divorced Catherine. 2 . Anne Boleyn was King Henry’s second wife. King Henry wanted a son but she failed to do so and King Henry accused her of being disloyal with others and off went the head with her. 3. Jane Seymour was the third wife of King Henry and gave him a son ,Edward IV but died shortly after birth. 4. Anne of Cleeves was the fourth wife of Henry . He decided to marry her after looking at a portrait which apparently was very misleading and off she went with a divorce. 5. Catherine Howard was the fifth wife of King Henry but was caught flirting with other men and off went the head with her 6. Catherine Parr was the luckiest of all the six wives as she was the last. King Henry died with her at his bedside .

5 King Edward IV King Edward VI became King of England at the age of 9/10 when his father died. When he was King a council ofleading nobles ruled England, these men were protestant so they allowed Thomas Cranmer to introduce protestant beliefs. He wrote the common book of prayer. King Edward died due to tuberculosis and the measles

6 Queen MaryI Queen Mary was King Henrys first born child of seven miscarriages and five dead children. She was the most hated Queen in history. She was strongly catholic and re-introduced the catholic church. After king Edward many English were now protestant and Queen Mary wanted to put and end to that by prosecuting protestants and due to those actions she was awarded a nickname called Bloody Mary. She married her second cousin Philip Of Spain and many people were worried that Mary would be dominated by her husband. She did not want her protestant sister Elizabeth to heir her throne when she died as she did not want England to be a protestant country again so she kept trying to get pregnant with her husband .

7 Queen Elizabeth I Out of all the rulers from the Tudor family queen Elizabeth was the most successful. She was the second child of King henrys and the third heir of the throne. She introduced the church of England and made it the official religion of England She never married and is called the virgin queen
