statistics 1-2 people per every 10 people (20 years old and older) have diabetes in the U.S. 29.1 million people have been diagnosed have been undiagnosed and unaware of their condition. After 2012 it was labeled the 7th leading killer in the U.S.

Who is Affected? Men are more susceptible acquiring type 2 diabetes.
Least prevalent in Caucasians Type 2 is the most prevalent amongst: Native Americans African Americans Hispanics Asian Americans

Characteristics of people who are more likely to acquire Type 2: Excess weight Genetic history of diabetes Physical inactivity Older than 20 Poor diet

Definitions/symptoms
The body resists the effects of insulin or doesn’t produce enough insulin to help in maintaining normal glucose levels. Increased thirst/hunger/urination Weight loss Fatigue Blurred vision

Treatments Drugs: Metformin: makes the body more sensitive to insulin.
Insulin therapy/shots/pumps: provides the insulin necessary to function. Checking blood sugar. No definite cure yet, just management.

Prevention Healthy eating (fruits and vegetables) Regular exercise
If aware of family history make sure to check on your likelihood of getting the disease. Live a health conscious life.
