1 AFNeT Standardization Days 2017 - Paris
Implementor Forums : CAx-IF and CAE-IF to accelerate interoperability solutions availability By Jean-Marc CREPEL, Associated CAE Expert, AFNeT AFNeT Standardization Days Paris April 19 & 20, 2017

2 Primary Technical Approach
The LOTAR project Seven LOTAR WGs LOTAR EAS WG Goals and Objectives …to develop, publish and maintain standards-based mechanisms for archiving and retrieval of Engineering Analysis and Simulation information that can be read and reused throughout the product lifecycle, independent of changes in the Information Technology (IT) application environment originally used for creation. ISO STEP AP209 ed2 5, 10, 15, 20, 30,…, or more years Model Results Context Pedigree Primary Technical Approach Original Recovered for review or reuse “Multi-disciplinary analysis and design” Source : LOTAR EAS WG AFNeT Standardization Days 2017 – ParisSource April 19 & 20, 2017

3 Motivation for using Standards in CAE and other Cax domains
Interoperability for Multiphysics / Multi tools Analysis and Extended Enterprise exchanges Long Term Archive and Retrieve Knowledge management and Reuse Legal needs Certification Litigation Accident investigation Business needs Evaluate changes Evaluate damage Address customer questions Evaluate new conditions and mission requirements Engineer modifications Engineer derivatives Capture knowledge Exchange data An archive information package must be created to support these items, used for 2 main purposes: retrieve reuse analysis and simulation data. LOTAR supports the needs by providing an enduring data archive. Source : LOTAR EAS WG AFNeT Standardization Days Paris April 19 & 20, 2017

4 STEP AP 209 ed.2 : Multidisciplinary analysis and design
STEP AP209 is a standard for sharing, exchange and long term archiving of information between the iterative design and analysis stages of the product life cycle. Disciplines covered today by AP209 ed2 : Structural Finite Element Analysis; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Kinematics. As a first step CAE-IF focus on Structural FE linear quasi-static Analysis using metallic and composites material types CAE-IF initiative is expected to accelerate STEP AP209e2 processor development in CAE domain and promote usage through users community All AP242 (Managed Model Based 3D Engineering) is a subset of AP209 ed2 AFNeT Standardization Days Paris April 19 & 20, 2017

5 CAx Implementor Forum (CAx-IF)
Joint testing forum hosted by PDES, Inc., ProSTEP iViP, and AFNeT Composed of CAD and CAE vendors as well as translation and validation software developers providing STEP translators Closed group (sandbox) allowing implementors to develop and test new approaches in a trusted environment Launched in 1999, by merging previous PDES, Inc. and ProSTEP iViP efforts. Since then, 39 test rounds have been completed focused on CAD domain. CAE domain test rounds to start on Sept, 2017. Mission is to meet industry’s needs by developing and testing standards based interoperable products AFNeT Standardization Days Paris April 19 & 20, 2017

6 Goals of the CAx Implementor Forum
Accelerate CAx translator development Ensure that users' requirements are satisfied Implement functionality for today's needs Identify functionality for tomorrow's needs Avoid roadblocks by establishing agreed upon approaches Increase user confidence by providing system and interoperability testing Ensure new functionality does not adversely impact existing implementations AFNeT Standardization Days Paris April 19 & 20, 2017

7 CAx-IF testing methodology
Preparation based on: Test suite selection Test environment Rec. Practise update Preparation phase Translation based on: Current EXPRESS / XML Schemas Latest (draft) Recommended Practices Test Case definitions Translate to STEP Checks performed: Syntax and Structure (conformance to schema) Semantics (conformance to Rec. Practices) Perform STEP file checks and report findings Participants access and process STEP files; report results Participants resolve issues during the test rounds Detailed review at meeting AFNeT Standardization Days Paris April 19 & 20, 2017

8 CAx-IF Test Round Breakdown
Two rounds per year: CAD : March – Sept. / Sept. – March CAE : June – Dec. / Dec. - June Evaluation Preparation Evaluation of results Meeting preparation (collection of discussion topics…) 2 weeks Meeting Data import Results collection Import of submitted test data Collection of results Pre-meeting resolution of issues 6 weeks Conference Call Implementation Data submission Update of implementations Realization of test cases Provision of test data (STEP files and statistics) Transition Meeting wrap-up (minutes etc.) Creation/Update of Recomm. Practices Preparation for test round (Test Suite, Test Environment…) 12 weeks AFNeT Standardization Days Paris April 19 & 20, 2017
