3 Compensation and Employee Relations Department
The Compensation and Employee Relations Department provides services to employees in a responsive, timely and compassionate manner, including: Employee and Labor Relations Compensation Retirement, FMLA, Sick Bank, EAP Board Policy for Personnel

5 Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Eligible employees are entitled to up to 12 work weeks of paid/unpaid leave during a 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons: Must have worked hours the previous 12 months to qualify Birth and care of the newborn child of the employee For placement with the employee of a child for option or foster care To take medical leave when an employee is unable to work due to a serious health condition To care for an immediate family member (spouse, parent, child) with a serious health condition For a qualifying exigency of a family member in the military To take up to 26 weeks to care for a member of the Armed Forces with a serious medical condition

6 Sick Leave Bank To become a member of the Sick Leave Bank, employees must have worked for the district for one year and have a sick leave balance of 5 days as of October 1. This grants eligible employees up to 80 days of paid leave for a personal serious health condition.

7 ADA Accommodations The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires an employer to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities who are employees or applicants for employment, unless to do so would cause undue hardship. Examples of accommodations include: Making existing facilities accessible Providing light covers Providing access to restrooms throughout the work day Allowing employee to sit after periods of standing

8 Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The EAP offers you and your eligible dependents access to individual counseling services to assist with resolving problems which may be affecting your work and home life. The EAP can help with all types of issues- marital and family, parenting, alcohol and drug problems, aging parents, anxiety and depression, legal and financial problems and stress management. 9 Board Policy Reminders...
Policy 2.70 Unlawful Discrimination Prohibited No person shall, on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, marital status, qualified handicap or disability or social or family background be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity, or in any employment conditions or practices conducted by this School District, except as provided by law. The School Board shall admit students to District Schools and programs without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, marital status, qualified handicap or disability or social and family background.

Policy Bullying or Harassment This Board Policy is an 18-page document, for students and employees. The Board is committed to providing a safe, positive, productive and nurturing educational environment for all students and employees. Students and employees are encouraged to constructively attempt to stop acts of bullying or harassment when they see them and report. Students and employees are expected to conform to reasonable standards of socially acceptable behavior and show respect for persons, property and the rights of others.

11 Board Policy reminders…
Policy 6.30 Violation of local, state, and/or federal laws Policy states employees must self-report within 48 hours: Any arrest/charges involving the abuse of a child or sale/possession of controlled substance Any conviction, finding of guilt, withholding of adjudication commitment, commitment to a pretrial diversion program, or entering a plea of guilty or Nolo Contendere (other than minor traffic violation- non-criminal violation that is not punishable by incarceration or trial by jury) Criminal traffic violations, including DUI of alcohol and/or drugs, are not minor

Policy Code of Ethics Policy states: All employees should adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida No employee should engage in conduct unbecoming of the School Board All employees are required to report employee misconduct

13 Board Policy Reminders…
Policy Absent Without Leave (AWOL) Any employee who is willfully absent from duty without leave shall be subject to dismissal from employment and shall forfeit compensation for the time of the absence. If an employee fails to report for duty for three (3) consecutive working days, and is not on approved leave, the employee will be determined to have abandoned his/her position and the employee will be subject to termination.

14 Social Media Guidelines
Lake County Schools has created Guidelines for Employee use of Social Media Networks. All employees are expected to serve as a positive ambassador for the District. Use caution when posting on social network sites/blogs to avoid the risk of affecting your employment. All ethical expectations set forth in the “Code of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession” for employee/student relationships and communication with a student apply with social media communications, through District systems AND privately owned systems.

15 Social Media Guidelines, cont.
District/Professional Use: ALL use of district equipment is archived and becomes subject to public record. Accessing inappropriate websites during work hours or using your District inappropriately can result in disciplinary action. The use of social networking/blog for District-related business must have the Superintendent’s approval. The lake.k12.fl.us address implies you are acting on behalf of the district. Do NOT post confidential information about the District, students, alumni or employees.

16 Social Media Guidelines, cont.
Social Networking Sites/Blogs for Personal Use: The district takes no position on an employee’s decision to participate in the use of social media networks for personal use on personal time. The personal use of these media during District time or on District equipment is prohibited. The following are suggestions: Employees should be respectful and professional in all communications. If you identify yourself as a District employee, your actions will reflect not only on you, but on the District. Do not blog or post about students. Do not blog or post about your job duties, colleagues or supervisor. It could be viewed as inappropriate for District employees to communicate with current students enrolled in the district.
