1 Coming Home: A project that inspires students to design their future homes while learning stuff!

2 First Steps: Choose a card to find where you live.
Research building materials, weather conditions, and find other houses in your area to see what they look like. Choose your housing style. Research where these houses typically are constructed, what materials you need, and three pros and cons of your choice. Then make the house your own. You can draw your house, find pictures online of your house, or find pictures in a magazine. Write a paragraph about why you chose this house, interesting features, and how it fits your needs.

8 Floor Plan Now design your floor plan. You will divide the space inside your home to reflect the needs of your family. Consider things such as where will you put the kitchen, the bathrooms, how many stories will you have and how many bedrooms will you need. You may want to use these resources to help you get started. You can use one of these programs or you can draw your own plan using PowerPoint or on paper.

9 Room Designs Next you will pick three rooms to design. You can choose a color scheme, furniture, and accessories. Use the following slides to help you create rooms that follow the best principles of design. Think green. What materials can you use to save the Earth while staying within a reasonable budget. How can you use local stuff that helps build the economy and helps your neighbors trying to make a living. You can create a power point slide for each room or you can create an image board on paper.

10 Color Schemes Monochromatic: One color Analogous: Neighbor colors
Complementary: Across the circle Accented neutrals: Neutrals are whites, tans, greys, and blacks. You accent them with a bright color.

Finally, show your three rooms. This is really your chance to impress the potential buyers while showing your style.
