3. Why eco-innovation policy?
De EU heeft bereikt een   relatieve ontkoppeling van het bbp-groei (het bruto binnenlands product) en het materiaal gebruik.  Maar de absolute niveau van de consumptie van natuurlijke hulpbronnen   is blijven groeien in dezelfde tijd.

What is eco-innovation?
Eco-Innovation is any form of innovation resulting in
or aiming at significant and demonstrable progress towards
the goal of sustainable development, through reducing
impacts on the environment, enhancing resilience to
environmental pressures, or achieving a more efficient
and responsible use of natural resources.

14. “European paradox” Majority of EU companies do not eco-innovate
Great majority of eco-innovators declare only incremental material efficiency improvements
Strong eco-innovation performance does not automatically result in better environmental performance on the macro scale
There is a high diversity of eco-innovation performance in the EU, both between countries and sectors
