1 The Value of Melchizedek
Genesis 14: 17 – 24 His identity is King of Salem and “a priest of the God Most High. The meaning of his identity King of Righteousness King of Peace His character Generous and kind to the warriors of Abram Received tithes of Abram

2 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Hebrews 6:

3 What did Melchizedek do?
He recognized Abram as the victor of the battle of the kings. (ch. 14: 13 – 16) He blessed Abram – “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” While Melchizedek accepts tithes of Abram, Abram refuses any and all generosities from the king of Sodom.

4 Obviously, the comparison is valuable!
But what of Melchizedek himself? The Hebrew writer grants us all the additional information we can find of him. The psalmist does give us this passage: “The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” This same passage is repeated seven times in the book of Hebrews, emphasizing “Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” Obviously, the comparison is valuable!

5 What the Hebrew writer says of Melchizedek Hebrews 5: 1- 10
He was more than a “common” high priest He pre-dates the Law of Moses by more than 500 years Every high priest under the Law has these attributes: a. taken from among common men b. offered both gifts and sacrifices for sin c. Dealt gently with the ignorant and misguided/he was like them d. thus he sacrificed for the people AND himself! c. None could simply “assume” the office

6 What the Hebrew writer says of Melchizedek
Hebrews 6:19 – 20 This HOPE is God’s promise through Christ Examine verses 13 – 18 Note again, “after the order of Melchizedek.”

7 What the Hebrew writer says of Melchizedek Hebrews 7: 1 – 17
We learn the meaning of Melchizedek We learn he had no recorded heritage, but MADE LIKE THE SON OF GOD a. He blessed Abram, and without dispute “the lesser is blessed by the greater.” b. Abram was blessed by God with promise; yet Melchizedek is greater for he blessed Abram! c. Under Old Law men both paid and received tithes; yet Melchizedek only received tithes; even from Levi!

8 What the Hebrew writer says of Melchizedek Hebrews 7: 1 – 17
d. If the Levitical law had been perfect, why then did the order of the high priest come from Aaron and not Melchizedek? Answer: when the priesthood changed, so did the law! e. In this case, the priest comes from another tribe; one that has note received the attendance of an official.

9 What the Hebrew writer says of Melchizedek Hebrews 7: 1 – 17
f. Even more clearly, should a priest arise after the order of Melchizedek and not Aaron, it would be due the power of an INDESTRUCTIBLE life! g. Thus, “Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”

10 Now we look at Christ – our high priest!
Hebrews 5:5 -- So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. Psalms 2: 1- 12 Philippians 2:

11 Now we look at Christ – our high priest!
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec. See also Hebrews 7:

12 Melchizedek Christ Jesus
He blessed Abram; the greater always blesses the lesser. Why did the order of the high priest come from Aaron and not Melchizedek? Answer: when the priesthood changed, so did the law! In this case, the priest comes from another tribe; one that has not received the attendance of an official. Melchizedek came from an INDESTRUCTIBLE life! “Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” He blesses us (Eph. 1:3) and the Greater always blesses the lesser. When Christ was made our high priest (Heb. 4:15) there was of necessity a change of the Law! Christ was appointed High Priest by God – not man! Christ’s life is eternal (Heb. 13:8) Indeed, He is God’s beloved Son, King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
