3. International and African Students in the U.S. 2013-2014

According to the most recent Open Doors report, in , 886,052 international students studied in the U.S. – double the number in the U.S. 20 years ago. The countries with the largest numbers of students in the U.S. are China, India, and South Korea. 31,113 of these students were from Sub-Saharan Africa with almost 8,000 students from Nigeria, over 3,000 from Kenya and almost 3000 from Ghana. South Africa is next with 1,716 – 980 undergrads, 491 graduate students, 88 non degree and 157 in practical training. And it goes both ways. There were 5,337 U.S. students studying in South Africa (mainly short term non-degree programs) in S. Af. is in the top 12 destinations of U.S. students studying abroad.

According to Li Song, China's deputy ambassador to South Africa, there are 1100 South African students studying in China, and 2 400 Chinese students studying in South Africa.

9. Cochran Agricultural Exchange
The Program:
Work with universities, government agencies & private companies.
Two – three week program
Hands-on training in agricultural trade, agribusiness development, management, policy and marketing.

10. Professional Fellow Program
Participants:
Emerging leaders in business, government, NPO’s
The Program:
Individually tailored fellowships with appropriate partners.
6 week program

11. HH Humphrey Program Participants:
Accomplished mid-career professionals in various fields

12. US Fulbright Specialist Program

The Program:
South African university or college submits proposal for a short-term professional to visit for a specific project.

USG helps arrange a follow-on program for participants going to the U.S. for conferences or meetings.

Faculty with a PhD & 5 years experience
The Program:
Expenses covered for degree program.
Expenses covered to do research &/or lecture in U.S. for 1 year
