Ask a Question: Form a question based on observations.
Make observations/research: Make close qualitative and quantitative observations about the question you are asking. Form a hypothesis: Create a testable, “If, then…” statement. This is a carefully designed prediction. Test the hypothesis: The independent variable, dependent variable, control group, and experimental group should be defined during this step. An easy to follow, step by step experiment should be created prior to testing the hypothesis. Analyze results: Now the data is graphed and organized. Look for any patterns in the data. Draw conclusions: Based on the observations and data, is the hypothesis correct or incorrect and why is that the conclusion Communicate results: Tell other scientists about the results. Because you are only changing one variable, there is only one difference between the control group and the experimental group. If there are any differences at the end of the experiment, it is likely that it was caused by the variable.

After analyzing the data from several experiments, a scientist can draw a conclusion. They decide whether the results prove that the experiment was correct or incorrect by looking at the data and the observations made during the experiment. Intended benefits: The positive purpose for which a technology is designed to be used.
Unintended consequences: uses or results that engineers do no purposely include in the design of products. An unintended consequence can be positive or negative. Adaptive Bioengineering: a product or process that CHANGES living organisms or is specially made for an organism Examples: racing wheelchair, genetically modified plants Assistive Bioengineering: a product or process that helps living organisms reach their potential Examples: crutches, normal wheelchair, hearing aids, automatic water sprinkling system
