Guide to Niqqud/Nikud in Hebrew

Why dotting? “Niqqud”(Dotting) is the cornerstone of learning Hebrew. Without it, we will never be able to distinguish one word from another similar word Or even determine the role of a given word which uses the same root letters. Example: מָחשב - a computer מֵחשב – He calculates These look exactly the same in Hebrew, but let’s take a closer look:

First, we learn the vowel equivalents in English: A/E/ I/ O/ U אָ אַ / אֵ אֶ / אִ/ אֹ / אֻ Last but not least: אְ – quick mild sound

"ו" Dotting the letter Vav
The letter Vav has three main types of dotting: Inside a word: וּ sounds like a “U”, middle dot וֹ sounds like an “O”, dot above the letter Outside a word, it connects sentences together: וְ this Vav is a connector, sound is: “ve”
