DWI Dashboard Uses Planning of DWI enforcement efforts
Law enforcement working outside their jurisdiction shown patterns of enforcement and crashes Direct resources more effectively Analysis of Your Agency’s Efforts Is enforcement occurring where crashes occur? Are there enforcement gaps, i.e. crashes but no arrests? Routes used by public to avoid enforcement? OTS has promoted the Dashboard and has an expectation that grant coordinators will use the tool for planning multi-agency events and analysis for grant writing. May be used to verify or debunk thoughts that an agency or officer/deputy/trooper may have about crash and enforcement history. Later slide shows how Washington County ran a query based upon a hunch that crashes occurred in southern most part of county but these is no corresponding enforcement in that area.
31
Searchable Fields This is the basic search screen. Users will typically first choose a type of event or events – see top right Display Type. A date range is advisable so a reasonable amount of data is returned. Depending upon the reason for the search, a user may select from another field too – Agency, City, County, Agency Type – in order to look at the information that is desired.
32
Search & Display This shows the items searched – Crash – Date Range – Washington County. The map shows the results. Dots are always color coded and this is the Crash color.
33
Dashboard – Visual Patterns Crashes and Arrests Overlaid
Area of Crashes but no Arrests This map shows the prior search expanded to include eCharging Arrests. The user zoomed in to this area, southern Washington County, because of the pattern observed. Note the string of 5 Crashes in the area where no Arrests have occurred. This is Hwy 61 south of Cottage Grove in a lightly populated area. South of the lowest point is a bridge leading to Dakota County/Hastings. Once this type of gap in enforcement is discovered, the law enforcement agencies – local, county and MSP, can work together to address the area for both grant funded TZD events and on a daily/regular basis.
34
Pop-Out Displays Details of the Event
By clicking on any of the points/dots, the details of the event will be displayed. It is all public data and will include the BAC if known.
35
Table View – Sortable on Columns
This is just an example of the table view of the mapped events. Results may be sorted on any of the columns by clicking on the column label. This is also where the export to Excel will be accomplished when it is available.
