Introduce myself: despite the title… to infuse technology into the classroom To talk about technology at Jefferson, one has to talk about the curriculum: the following is a context in which to talk about technology… I will be followed by Barbara Nelson who will talk more in specifics of the classroom Four goals: educating the whole child; developing new methods and materials in curriculum; Outreach; providing a model for partnerships between private sector and public ed. Today’s focus will be on the first two… the second results from the first

Reflected on all our computers are the businesses who have supported the school in various ways… we are preparing leaders and innovators for tomorrow’s businesses we are learning from businesses and adapting curriculum and materials to meet evolving needs we are partnering students, teachers and businesses all the time

Six Goals 1) to acquire Communication Skills Develop skills in writing, conversing, presenting, visually and graphically sharing, and critiquing information and ideas networking people

3) to understand dynamic and complex systems in order to ask larger questions and define problems To recognize the relationships between various units and tasks, and develop understandings of how whole systems work… more on this later with IBET

4) To work with real projects and real problems Experience-based learning Learning to ask questions more important than problem solving learning to look at data sets and relationships in systems and pose useful, probing questions and define problems to be tackled

Is not only about technology: It’s about art, music, sports and other pursuits students and staff are encouraged to bring all of this together as we pursue our missions it’s also about ethics… honesty and trust in an environment where these are critical to do the job necessary eg. Teachers from all dept. meeting with artists… how they du their work

to provide collaborative work space and tools To provide the means of collecting and analyzing data to reveal the bigger questions that can be asked to bring solutions to the school and business Novell Network Hybrid Environment: Support DOS machines, Windows in all o f its versions, NT, Unix and Macintosh computers and printers on the network A powerful, carefully architected infrastructure of CAT 5 wiring, hubs and switches

Mentorship Program This is the context: These programs will reflect the goals Geo Science was developed at TJ in an effort to respond to change around us… currently this program is taught at all high schools in Fairfax County. IBET is a trademark of the TJ experience… and for that… turn over to Barbara

Dear Mr. McFaden, “I’m flipping though the cable stations and as usual with 120 channels to choose from there is nothing worth watching. So I find myself watching C-SPAN....Congressman Jim Moran was talking, and all of a sudden he is talking about deer hunts at Mason Neck.... He mentioned that managers there had given him data saying ...that the data collections had been done by students ....”
