2. What is the Algebraic Reasoning Course?
Created by SBOE in 2014 in response to HB5
Math graduation requirements include “Advanced Math” for Foundation diploma and for Endorsements.
Existing pathways mostly included Algebra 2
Legislative intent: not all students should have to take Algebra 2
Original design was to be like an applied Algebra 2 course

3. What is the Algebraic Reasoning Course?
TEKS focus on same function families as Algebra 2
Function families explored more conceptually than symbolically
Use graphs and tables to explore critical attributes (domain and range, rates of change, asymptotes, intercepts, maxima/minima, etc.)
Use graphs and tables to estimate solutions to equations
Use functions to model and solve problems from real-world situations

4. Clusters of Content AR.2: Finite Differences and Common Ratios
AR.3: Representations and Attributes of Functions
AR.4: Operations with Functions
AR.5: Matrices
AR.6: Solving Equations Related to Functions
AR.7: Modeling with Functions
