3. Hardness Testing
The result of tablet hardness is a first and quick indication of the consistence of the formulation.
OOS results stops the process for further QC tests, like Disintegartion, Dissolution...and will lead to a readjustment of the compression force of the tablet press.
Follow up stability with hardness testing is done to check the packaging conditions over 48 month

4. Measuring System
Due to the history of Tablet Hardness Testers, two different Measuring Principles exist:
Constant Speed and Constant Force.
Depending on the measuring principle, the results on the same tablet will differ. But: both are correct!
The customer decides on these principles.
SOTAX hardness tester meets all users’ requirements. The choice of two measuring principles, „Constant Speed“ and „Constant Force“, are an integrated standard with SOTAX HT 1, 10 or 100 Tablet Hardness Testers.

5. Constant Speed
The test jaw is moved with a constant speed against the sample (tablet). The speed on our equipment is adjustable from mm/min (Erweka and the must other using 2.3mm/sec).
Due to its speed (increase approx. 250 Newton/sec.) the test process is fast.

6. Constant Force
The test jaw is moved until it touches the sample (tablet). Then the pressure onto the sample increases linearly, i.e. 20 Newton/sec.
The pressure increase per second is on our tester a configurable parameter to be edited in a range of 5 to 100 Newton/sec.
