2 History Founded by Anna Millard, the Visiting Nurse Association was created in 1896 in Omaha Soon after the VNA was formed Hospitals, caring citizens and special organizations soon after began to mobilize alongside Anna realizing the community’s health needs and concerns and the opportunity and difference VNA could make in ensuring the wellbeing of Omaha. In 1917, Visiting Nurse Association of Council Bluffs was formed. Health epidemics, world war, children with disabilities, administration of immunizations, recognition of the needs of seniors with each passing decade, VNA became a critical resource in providing home care and health services to the communities it grew to serve. Today, VNA of Omaha and Council Bluffs remains the recognized and respected leading in-home care provider at the forefront of innovative skilled health services and compassionate caregiving

3 Care in the Community VNA is the only in-home care provider that offers public health nurse home visitation and extends care into the community. From school health services to breast cancer treatment assistance, VNA and partnering organizations offer a wide range of community health services designed for individuals as well as the Omaha and Council Bluffs communities. For Breast Cancer Support, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Nebraska and Iowa Affiliates, VNA provides financial assistance and support services to assist women in their care. VNA offer services such as financial Assistance for day-to-day expenses, such as utilities, gas cards, one-time medical needs, or other essentials. The VNA Breast Cancer Assistance Program is dedicated to providing services that enable women to prioritize their needs, and determine which services or financial support will make the most difference in meeting those needs.

4 The VNA also has a community program called Cooking Matters, where they have teamed up with companies like Walmart & Conagra Food Foundation. Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters™ empowers families at risk of hunger with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make healthy and affordable meals. With the help of volunteer culinary and nutrition experts, course participants learn how to select nutritious and low-cost ingredients and prepare them in ways that provide the best nourishment possible to their families. The VNA also offers family services such as parenting classes, assistance from public health nurses, social workers and parent coaches, VNA provides education and information – at home and in the classroom - to help support and prepare pregnant women and teens, and young families for parenting. The VNA also offers childbirth education classes to help people prepare for pregnancy and childbirth. They also offer Physician Newborn/Postpartum Care, this program offers newborn and postpartum care assessment at home for families with newborns and provides new moms and their families with the latest information on newborn care, parenting skills and breastfeeding techniques.

5 Vna run a program called, VNA-CSI Intensive Home Visitation, a collaboration of the VNA and Child Saving Institute provides home visits at no charge to vulnerable families in Douglas and Sarpy counties to assure the safety of young children in the home. They also have Social workers that assist families with psychosocial needs and accessing housing, food and other material resources.

6 Care in Your Home VNA offers services such as companion care If you or a loved one needs extra help at home with day-to-day living, VNA offers the highest quality homemaker, companion and personal care service for your family. VNA companion care services include light housework, meal preparation, shopping or errands, laundry and ironing, maintaining a safe environment, sitter services, accompany you to doctor appointments or civic event, assistance with bathing, etc.. VNA offers skilled home care, providing expert home care for people with an injury or illness. VNA's in-home nursing is recognized as best in class and a trusted source for those who need individualized home care. The VNA also Hospice and Palliative Care VNA is the only in-home care provider and Council Bluffs that extends its care from the home out into the community
