1 Graphical Data Engineering
Network Manager

2 Graphical Data Engineering - GDE
Configuration tool for the Network Manager system Flexible and versatile Easy to learn and use Maintains data in the runtime database Total as well as incremental population Offline data entry and data preparation, supported by Interactive tools; Graphical Editor and Forms Interface Using powerful ORACLE tools Extensive defaulting and Lookup of proposed or optional values On-line Help Extensive model validation and consistency checking At data entry and at import By the database At manual request Safe and easy to use data processing The Maintenance Manager tool aids the user Designed for data import and data reuse

4 Data Maintenance tools
Preparation of data for target runtime system(s) Forms Graphical Editor

5 GDE features – Graphical Editor (1/2)
Easy-to-use graphical user interface gives short training time Intelligent graphics (symbols know their meaning) for extensive validation Context sensitive menus give correct hierarchies and object relationships

6 GDE features – Graphical Editor (2/2)
Network topology derived from graphics ensures correct topology Object relationships derived from graphics ensures correct and consistent data Deep copy and paste makes reuse of work possible Template library gives organized working methods To Do list makes sure data is plausible before loading

7 GDE features - Multi record form
Benefits: General changes are easily done Reduces engineering costs Visual inspection of changes Increases the data quality

8 Definition Hierarchy Substation ~ Subnet T2W system Hierarical level:
Bay 1 Generator Subnet T2W system bus segment Transmission line Bay 4 Bay 5 Substation Hierarical level: Level 1: station, transmission line Level 2: Subnet, transformer, indirect components Level 3: Bay, generator Level 4: Switch

9 Data definition and connections
STA SUN BUS STA2 CB1 CB2 Station connector (Side B) Internal connection IS1 Routing point STA132STA2 Station connector (Side A)

10 GDE - Deep copy Copy the structure of Benefits Station Subnet Bay
Individual objects or arbitrary selection of objects Benefits Reuse of work Powerful when copying similar objects Paste ~

11 GDE - Template Library Benefits: Automated work
Easy to use - graphical navigator Reduced engineering costs

12 GDE - Data Consistency support features
Graphical Editor To-do list Visual topology definition Database Constraints Derived data by triggers Plausibility check e.g. HW assignment Bild? T.ex. to-do list

13 = GDE - Simplicity 1:1 DE PDB MDB Safe and easy to use data processing
Automated auditing Automated data processing Automated offset file generation Simple and correct maintenance Full trace-ability Safe and easy to use data processing

14 GIS Data Import – Customer Situation
Huge initial data transfer Frequent updates of small data volumes Several times each day Both model data and picture data Not all data can be found in the GIS system It must be possible to add data in GDE New objects, e.g. RTU Extra parameters; e.g reference to Indication

15 Which Data Can GDE Import?
GDE can import data models that equal Network Manager data model Mapping can be done outside the import tool Import media is CSV files (Comma Separated Values) Flexible specification in user friendly forms of Scope of data to import Order between data fields Data transformation functions

16 Data Dictionary of GDE Import Tool
Parameters Tables Columns Event Log

17 Import Data Flow GIS GDE GDE can import totally or incrementally
PED500 Run-time Database Picture Data Model Data GDE can import totally or incrementally

18 GDE Forms are utilized for adding data
Maintenance Database + Data in columns entered by GDE Forms will sustain after re-import

19 GDE Graphical Editor used for EMS
Maintenance Database + Support for several data sources Only the tool that created the record can delete the record –Data Consistency Preserved

20 Runtime Database Loading
Maintenance Environment Run-time Environment Data Entry Graphical Editor Forms Data Import Data Loading Run-time PDB Presentation Customer's Data Source Oracle MDB Picture Generator Picture files Selectively Totally or Incrementally

21 Database Population in on-line environment
Network Manager supports introducing changes directly in the on-line server does not require any switchover! Affected objects are automatically taken out-of-service during update The new database with modified objects can be tested in true real-time environment. If the test is accepted the engineering change can be approved. In case of a negative test result, the engineering change may be rejected. GDE - DE400 On- line Back- up

22 Maintenance Manager Each maintenance task managed from one place
Database population Selectively, only the wanted/changed scope of data Total or incremental – incremental on record level for fast processing Data Import

23 GDE - Configurations GDE Server GDE Clients
Oracle application server in Tru64 or Windows 2000 Server GDE Clients Windows 2000 or Windows XP PCs

24 GDE - Multi-user support
Parallel working permitted Data consistency preserved

25 Maintenance Environment Run-time Environments
GDE - Shared Multi Site Maintenance Environment Run-time Environments Offset files GDE tool System 1 (MCC) PDB Offset files System 2 (CC2) PDB Offset files System n (CCn) PDB An unlimited number of runtime systems may be defined and loaded with: common data shared (overlapping) data individual data Resolution is station level

26 GDE - Distributed Multi Site
Maintenance Environments Runtime Environment DE tool 1 Offset files Local changes PDB System 1 Subscription DE tool n Offset files PDB System n Local changes DE data may be subscribed to and locally modified in different DE tools The DE tools may reside in the same DE database or in different workstations
