Maryland Demographic Breakdown 2013
The State of Maryland is becoming increasingly diverse. Based on 2013 data from the Department of Legislative Services, 47% of Marylanders are members of a minority group. For example, 9% of Marylanders are of Hispanic descent. Maryland Department of Legislative Services

The Hispanic community itself is incredibly diverse with residents from Central and South America, as well as Mexico and the Caribbean. Maryland Department of Legislative Services

Asians represent another large and growing addition to Maryland’s communities and are the State’s second fastest growing minority group after Hispanics. American Community Survey

Foreign Born Population
Much of the State’s minority population is foreign-born. In fact, Maryland has the tenth highest concentration of foreign-born residents in the country % of State residents are foreign-born compared to 12.9% nationally. Maryland Department of Legislative Services

The foreign-born population in Maryland is also among the most ethnically diverse in the country with higher percentages of individuals born in Asia and Africa when compared with other U.S. states. American Community Survey

And in our final slide, we see the percentage of foreign-born by county. Here you will see that much of this diversity is centered on the DC Metro area, but counties like Frederick, Harford, Talbot, and Wicomico also have significant and growing foreign-born populations.
