15 JUICE objective: Explore Europa recently active zones
Flyby strategy: In-situ observations Imaging Infrared observations Ice penetrating radar Altimetry Will result in : Characterisation of induced field Composition and geology of areas of high interest Subsurface exploration of recently active regions

16 Search for biologically essential elements
JUICE Europa Composition of the non-ice material, especially as related to habitability Surface composition: Hydrated compounds, hydrated salts, sulphuric acid hydrate, H2O2 etc… Search for biologically essential elements Link with subsurface, and with the (thin) atmosphere Search for liquid water under the most active sites Study the active processes Plumes… Atmospheric variability 16

17 JUICE objective: Explore Europa recently active zones
Flyby strategy: In-situ observations Imaging Infrared observations Ice penetrating radar Altimetry Will result in : Characterisation of induced field Composition and geology of areas of high interest First subsurface exploration of recently active regions

18 Radio occultations at Europa
19 and 27 January 2033 (with the previous baselined trajectory) 18

19 Summary: JUICE @ Europa
Main goal: Study of active zones 10% of Juice science return 2 flybys in October 2030 Monitoring from distance (plumes, activity etc…) 2 radio-occultations in 2033 Challenges: Radiation dose Power Data volume 19
