A bit of background... 40% of college campuses use some type of e- portfolio (2011) 21st century citizens with 21st century skills need 21st century assessment! Porfolios are designed to showcase YOU and YOUR skills! Students have changed, pedagogy is changing, assessment must change too!

What is an e-Portfolio? Combination of professional theory and practical experience Purposeful collection of meaningful data from teaching activities and related experiences Multi-modal Artifact of learning that showcases the individual Represents an entire process of learning in the form of a product Main difference with traditional portfolios is the inclusion of rich media. The individual can use the portfolio to present himself in relation to ever-changing society and times.

Why are e-portfolios so important?
Identification and documentation of personal skills and abilities Demonstrates more than tests Incorporates self-reflection Helps beginning teachers translate theory into practice Helps experienced teachers to self-improve Elicits the community as an audience Makes visible the process of learning as a product Student empowerment! E-portfolios are 100% customizable to each unique person. Demonstrate more than tests such as personal & social responsibility, intercultural competence & knowledge, teamwork, etc. Self-reflection leads to personal growth, professional growth and shows the ability of an individual to construct knowledge.

Considerations File formats Layout Use of color and images
Use universally accessible formats like PDF or RTF when possible. Make the layout attractive but not cluttered and easy to navigate. Watch color combinations as they may appear different on various monitors and mobile devices. Dark background, light text; light background, dark text. Customize what can be seen based on who views your site - tailor to specific visitors like potential employers or visitors
