Canada has many fewer gated communities per capita than does the US Concerns for security are less significant than in the US Projects are generally small (under 100 units). Developers see a market for gated projects, especially among seniors. Insert Image Here

Planners see gated projects as meeting compact community objectives. The main concern about gating is the visual impact of the fences. Few municipalities have policy to deal with gated developments. Insert Image Here
