16 Quench analysis Trace to connect sensors
At 4.2 K and 7100 A, the minimum temperature margin is 8.6 K, the lowest margin is there where the field is the most perpendicular to the cable The blue volumes. Thanks to : Erkki Härö, Tiina Salmi, Antti Stenvall CCS temp. sensor

17 HTS Quench DAQ FPGA NI-CompactRIO Channels 224 total
7 modules: 16 differential analogue inputs each +/- 200 mV till +/- 10 V input range 16 bits 7.8 kS/s per channel 1 module: 32 digital outputs 5 V TTL 7 µs response time Also available: high speed module 4 differential analogue inputs 1 MS/s, simultaneous sampling Processor: 667 MHz dual-core ARM 512 MB RAM 1 external GB storage + Additional 3 TB Ext.Storage NI Linux Real-Time OS FPGA: Xilinx Artix-7 2 M cells 30 cm A similar system is used by the EL group to capture voltage transients on the electrical network caused by EDF switching, thunderstorms and internal load changes.

18 Quench Detection - Voltage Taps
Mr. Voltage tap may be getting a little outdated for HTS Lets see!! Conclusion: quench velocity is very slow , leading to slow development of voltage that are difficult to detect.

19 Quench Detection - Acoustics
At LBNL quench acoustic signals were detected seconds before the LTS conductor quenched. For HTS investigation this system will be included in the tests Thanks to Maxim Marchevsky LBNL
