The idea of nation is potent & involves community, identity & shared historic & future trajectory.
Strong sense of THEM & US & metamorphosis into political realm

3. Nationalism
Nations are distinct entities… each nation should have self-determination.
Hak politik, hak hukum & hak administrative disebuah wilayah tertentu atau homeland.
Nationalism merubah ide nationhood ke wilayah politik.
Merupakan alasan unt memecah negara/empire, menciptakan negara baru & menjadi dasar loyalitas penduduknya.

4. States
Modern state systemoriginated in the peace of wesphalia = kedaulatan, non- intervensi, memiliki institusi politik,
External sovereignty = recocnition, legal equlity,
Montevideo Convention 1933 ttg statehood. 4 kriteria: permanent population, territory, government, relation with other states

5. Nation - States
The concept nation-satetes encompass nationalist idea of a marriage between the nation & the state.
Susah unt ditemukan, contoh: jepang, icrland, France, germany, italia.
Issue ttg multiculturalism

Masalah nationalism, statehood & self- determination,sumber konflik & debat dlm HI.
Fenomena “failed states”
Fenomena”Quasi-States” = post colonial states : institutionally weak at the domestic level. Ex africa
Fenomena “globalisasi” = deterriaralization, MNC, changing the nature of sovereign state.
