6 Interesting Facts In 1800 the US had 16 states, by 1803 it had doubled in size In 1803 Andrew Jackson ushered in the era of the common man = the property requirements were eliminated for voting rights In 1838 on the Trail of Tears 4,000 of 15,000 Cherokees died In 1845 Texas was admitted to the Union In 1861 the Civil War began
