Class Materials What should my student bring to class each day?
A Spanish-only binder (1-2inch) A Spanish-only spiral notebook inside their binder Their Spanish notes/handouts inside their binder Their planner to write assignments Your student is given one copy of all handouts in class. All materials should be placed in their binder.
5
At home To be successful in learning a language, students should study 20 minutes every night. This includes going over the concepts from that day and new vocabulary, as well as reviewing old concepts and vocab. If you’re up to the challenge, try practicing short Spanish conversations with your student. Has your student been singing in Spanish? Check out the videos at Youtube.com/SpanishIsYourAmigo/playlists

Duolingo Keeping track of your student: Ask your student if they’ve done Duolingo for the week

Translators & Spanish-speakers
The use of translators and Spanish-speakers to complete work is strictly prohibited. Students may look up individual words via online dictionaries, but students should say what they know how to say and write what they know how to write. Students should submit their own work. Using translators & Spanish-speakers will result in an automatic ‘0’ for the assignment and a discipline referral.
8
Do we use textbooks? No. We do not rely on textbooks, but rather use authentic resources and handouts in class. It is important that students are organized and bring all materials with them to class every day.
9
Grading Information Major Grades (Interpersonal, presentational, interpretive): All interpersonal and presentational major grades are graded using the FBISD rubrics. Your student has a copy of all 3 rubrics inside a sheet protector. Rubrics will be posted on Edmodo. Tests Projects Interpersonal Assessments (Conversations between students) Oral Presentations Interpretive assignments Daily Grades: Homework (-10pts every day late, ‘50’ or below for work that is 4+ days late ) Quizzes Classwork Participation Binder checks & Planner checks Warmups

High School Credit Students receive:
½ a high school credit in 6th grade ½ a credit in 7th grade 1 whole credit in 8th grade So, when they go to high school they will have 2 credits and can enter into Spanish 3 as freshmen. This then allows them to continue all the way through AP Spanish 5 if they would like, and earn college credit. Because these are high-school classes, it is important that your student keeps track of their grades
