Using Traditional Techniques to Increase Uptake of Male Circumcision and HIV Testing and Counselling Services of Males Ages Through Lihawu Male Mentoring Camp R. Britch, T. Churchyard, M.Sibanda The challenge that we are facing Swaziland ranked as one of the most gender unequal countries in the world (150th by UNDP in 2015). Highest HIV prevalence rate in the world at 31% among adults. In response, social movements and health interventions target girl child. The missing link (MEN) VMMC demand in Swaziland remains low. Male behaviours and attitudes aggravate HIV/GBV situation. What have we done to encourage positive masculinity?

Lihawu Male Mentoring Camp
Aimed at year old young men, combining behaviour change tenants of traditional Bantu initiation rites of passage with clinical best practice in VMMC. Youth friendly methodologies such as: outdoor challenges, edutainment games, uses of art and cultural observances. Discussions on masculinity, gender awareness, goal setting, HIV and male health issues and services. Participants are offered a comprehensive of male health services package including HTC, VMMC, STI check, TB test, Diabetes test, nutrition classes.
