3 CURRICULUM STRUCTURE No change to two week timetable, six lessons per day broadens curriculum A mixture of House Assembles and Chapel Extensive PSHE and the pastoral curriculum Student Leadership programme (Floreat) Homework demands and the student planner Behaviour and Rewards

4 OUR EXPECTATIONS Be in school for at least 96% of the time
Be punctual to all lessons Be respectful to the staff and pupils Be respectful to the school and its facilities Be smart and well presented and follow the uniform rules Be leaders & a positive role model to younger pupils Get involved in clubs & positive activities in or outside School To communicate in an adult manner with staff To take responsibility for their own learning To manage time well, completing homework & revision tasks To work together as a team to solve the challenges that GCSEs will bring!

I didn’t even do GCSEs – how can I help? There is always an excuse – I don’t know what to believe He always leaves everything to the last minute and then gets stressed I can’t stand the arguments and door slamming

12 How can you make a difference?
Your involvement can make an enormous difference – the difference between 4s and 5s and 7s and 8s Parental support is vital to a child’s academic success When the school and parents are working together it will lead to stronger results The good news is that you don’t have to be an expert

13 Practical Tips Ensure they have a positive working environment
(No clutter, technology away, dedicated space for working) Feed their brains! (Breakfast everyday, no energy drinks) Work-life balance (Not healthy to have too much of either) Encourage honest and open discussions about social networking and social media

14 Your role as a parent The unofficial attendance officer
Provide the tools Project manager Sounding board Entertainment officer

ATTENDANCE Research suggests that 17 missed school days a year = GCSE grade DROP in achievement.

Use exam papers and mark schemes (these can be accessed online) Basic organisation – files, work & revision timetables, which include breaks, sport, leisure etc. Use the LRC’s resources e.g. study skills sheets Top Tips for Parents (guide available in the curriculum area on the website) 1:1 organisational sessions 1:1 handwriting sessions
