1
Increasing challenge in revision tasks
2
Key ways to achieve this:
Teach study skills in context - make sure learners know what, how and why they need them Formative assessment - learners need to understand what to do next. You can help them think about this for themselves
3
Peer assessment ask learners to devise questions / tasks for each other (but they have to know the answers too!). They are more likely to want to challenge each other this way get learners to predict topics/ideas/vocabulary that they need for assessments work together to build up key facts/ideas and explain to another pair/group
4
Peer marking mark each other’s work using model answers / guidelines
explain marks to each other to increase understanding set themselves goals for own work
5
Mark sample assessments
use assignments/tasks from a previous student (anonymous) and mark according to criteria learners start to see examples of what is effective/less effective and can clarify own goals
6
Deliberate mistakes good way to focus on language/number
learners need to explain what the mistakes are and how to correct them can also focus on following instructions - give 2 pieces of work, one which looks good but does not meet criteria, other may have mistakes but is more successful overall
7
Challenge learners set a task which encourages learners to meet top criteria rather than settle for less encourage collaborative working to motivate learners followed by an individual task
