Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
George & Lennie have been force to run from Weed, Lennie was accused of sexually assaulting a young girl She had a pretty dress & he wanted to feel it Lennie likes to smooth & feel things like a little kid because he is simple & child like. Like we all did as children- he loves soft things - Lennie’s surname is Small -which is a sad & ironic joke as he is so big & bear like. In the opening chapter he is described as ‘he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws.’ George is ‘small and quick, dark of face with restless eyes and sharp, strong features.’ George is the brighter one who looks out for Lennie- that is why they are on the run from Weed, George got Lennie out just in time before the lynch mob got hold of him.

The Dream George & Lennie have a dream-
To own their own place, live of the land, grow crops & Lennie can look after the animals. ‘an’ live of the fatta the lan’,’ Lennie shouted.' An’ have rabbits. Go on George tell about what we’re gonna have..’ George does get irritated with Lennie & cross with him, ‘Jesus Christ,’ said George resignedly. However he does care for him, they look out for each other – ‘George went on. ‘With us it aint like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to theta gives a damn about us.’ They go to Curley’s dad’s farm, away from the trouble in Weed & hope to work hard & get money to buy their dream farm

Who is who on the farm? Curley- the aggressive son of the boss, a small angry man who takes a dislike to Lennie, once was a boxer & still fancies himself as a fighter. Married to Curley’s wife His dad-the Boss- seems a reasonable bloke, however seems out of touch with his son Curley & Curley’s wife Curley’s wife- a tarty, but lonely woman who has dreams of her own but is trapped by the marriage she made

Who is who on the farm? Slim – the head ranch worker who has a sense of right, a natural authority, rather like the hero in a classic Western film-the good guy Carlson-outspoken troublemaker of the workers, he’s the guy who shoots Candy's dog Crooks- the black outsider who lives on his own away from the other men- he gets tempted to join in on Lennie & George’s dream Candy-the old swamper (guy who cleans up & washes out), has a very old & disabled dog, which is shot to take it out of it’s misery, has no future & wants badly to join in on the Dream farm of George & Lennie
