1 Foundation Stage Nightingales and Bluebirds
Welcome Evening Welcome to a new school year at FLS. We’ve had a great start to the term and hope that the home visits and staggered start have been beneficial to you too.

2 Welcome and introductions
BLUE ROOM Nightingales: Miss Wood & Mrs Davis YELLOW ROOM Bluebirds: Miss Giles & Mrs Long And: Miss Mann & Mrs Shaw As well as: Mrs Palmer, Mrs Fountain, Mr Yates & Mrs Pekszyc Please pass messages to any member of staff, e.g. change of person collecting at the end of the day etc. After school you are more than welcome to come in to talk to us; the mornings are a busy time and the children want to talk to us then.

3 Routines and independence
The children are beginning to remember where their belongings go: Hang coats on their pegs Water bottles and lunchboxes on the trolley Yellow books in the box Book bags in the book bag boxes Snacks into drawers Snacks: fruit or vegetables; names containers. School fruit snack is available. No snacks in lunchboxes please – it’s just too tempting to eat everything! Access to the water fountain throughout the day so water bottle not compulsory. Separate drink in lunchbox if you wish, e.g. fruit juice. No fizzy drinks please. Please name everything. We try to return everything to its rightful owner, but the lost property chest is at the main office otherwise. Part of the Early Years Curriculum involves children becoming independent and looking after themselves. With this in mind, we would appreciate it if you could encourage your child/ren to put their coats on by themselves, practise doing and undoing buttons and putting shoes on and taking them off etc. All these skills are very important. The children also move their name card to show if they are having a packed lunch or hot school dinner. Please encourage the children to do as many of these tasks as independently as possible.

4 Routines and independence
Look out for Mrs New’s newsletter every other Friday. Foundation Stage newsletter also comes out on Fridays, called our Learning at Home: Information about our learning focus for the following week and how you can support your child at home Messages, requests and notes Annotate and comment as much as you wish. We enjoy reading your comments and sharing your child’s experiences. These are collected as part of your child’s learning journey. The children collect post from their post boxes as they get ready to go home. If you are missing a letter, please look there, or ask a member of staff. Everything is also available on the school website. If your child in Foundation has an older sibling, the older child will take home the school newsletter. Learning at home for messages for the week, information about our learning focus, sections for sharing learning at home. It’s great reading what the children have been doing and helps us initiate conversations.
