The Crisis Out of the 5 million refugees OUTSIDE of Syria, over half of them are under the age of 17. This is twice the population of Maine. A total of 895,000 individual applications for asylum or refugee status were submitted to governments and UNHCR offices in 166 countries in Only about 11% of these requests were fulfilled. Over 42,500 people are forced to leave their homes every day

Starfish Starfish is the only local organization helping refugees located in Greece They provide clothes and other support to new, displaced refugees, and then help them assimilate into Europe by helping them get papers and move onto the mainland Tino talks here

Flushing International High School
The student body consists of entirely immigrants and refugees. Often FIHS is their first school! FISH helps each student learn to read, write and communicate clearly in English while maintaining their native language They also provide other services to help the students transition

How We can Help Through Tino’s connection, we can sent clothes to the refugees, who often have nothing to wear when they arrive in Greece Additionally, the students at FIHS often arrive in New York without coats, unequipped to handle the winter. We will be collecting coats, hats, and other winter wear to donate! The grade that donates the most pounds of new or lightly used clothing will double lunch for a day! Drop off clothing for both Starfish and FISH on the B-Level!

Back by Popular demand... Dodgeball!!
If we can reach our goal of $500 by C-Day, the teachers will once again face off in a STEM vs Humanities battle! Note: we should bring the money box and collect as people leave
