Credit Review Students earn credits by passing a class (receiving an A, B, C, or D) For each standard course students’ pass, they earn 5 credits (Courses may be worth more or less than five credits, depending on several factors, including how often the course meets. Example: Town House is 2.5 credits each quarter) If students fail (earn an F) in a course, they do NOT earn any credits and will need to repeat the course SEE YOUR COUNSELOR TODAY IF YOU ARE FAILING ANY CLASS! Quarter 1 ends October 19th. Credits needed to pass a class and graduate. No more social promotion. Denver Public Schools 10/2/2016

Grade Levels by Credits Earned
9th Grade= 0-59 Credits Completed 10th Grade= Credits Completed 11th Grade= Credits Completed 12th Grade= Q: What grade level is a student with 175 credits? Q: Can a student who started the year with 140 credits graduate that same year? A1: no, the grade level is decided by the number of credits earned NOT the years in school. The student needs to have 60 credits by the end of the first year to be considered ON-TRACK for 10th grade. A2: Yes, three years in high school and having 125 credits earned is ON TRACK Remember, Excel Academy students can earn 90 credits each year, so students who are OFF-track can get ON Track sometimes in one or 1.5 years. Credit Recovery Credit Recovery (Edgenuity) – a class that is taken online or in the classroom in which students work to earn credit for a class in which they previously failed Passing Score: A student must score at least 80% (an A or B) on all unit tests in order to earn credit for the class. On your transcript, the recovered course will be recorded as a new course, with a new grade. Unfortunately, your original course grade will also remain on your transcript. Talk to a counselor if you have failed a class and must take it again online. Available Friday’s afterschool and Saturday’s. Explain unit recovery here, if used at your school. Unit Recovery – When a student collaborates with a teacher to re-take a unit that he/she has failed to earn credit in the original class. Denver Public Schools 10/2/2016
