7 Narrator Jesus Lawyer Priest Levite Samaritan Thieves Man (Stage directions)

8 Narrator- One day a lawyer came to Jesus and asked, "What should I do to get to heaven?"
Lawyer- "What should I do to get to heaven?" Narrator- Jesus answered, "What does the law say?" Jesus “What does the law say?” Lawyer- "You should love the Lord with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself," Narrator- the lawyer replied. Jesus- "That's right," Narrator-Jesus said. Jesus- "If you do all of that, you will be able to get to heaven." Narrator- But the lawyer, thinking he could ask Jesus a question that could not be answered, asked, Lawyer- "But who is my neighbor?" (lawyer move out of the way) Narrator- Jesus answered him by telling this story: Jesus- One day, a man who was traveling from a far away city, was mugged by a group of thieves. The thieves took everything he had, and then they beat him up and left him lying half dead by the side of the road. (Enter man-Man walk along -enter thieves- and thieves pretend to beat the man up and leave him lying dying on the floor.) (thieves go and sit down) Jesus- As he lay there in pain and misery, he heard footsteps. Priest walk up to the man, look at him and then look at his watch and then walk away.

9 Jesus- It happened to be a priest who came by, but when he saw the man lying beside the road, he decided to take a different road because he was in a hurry and didn't want to be bothered. After a little while, the man heard footsteps again.... Man- I think I can hear footsteps again. Jesus- He wanted to call out and get the attention of the person walking by, but he was in so much pain, all he could do was moan. Man- Argghhhhh Moan Jesus- This time the man who passed by was a Levite, a well-known teacher in the temple. SURELY HE would want to help the poor man. But when he saw the man lying on the side of the road, he looked down then turned his head then walked right by, completely ignoring the poor, hurting man. Levite walk up to man and look scared and then walk away. Jesus –before long the man heard ANOTHER set of footsteps. The man who was traveling down the road this time was a stranger from Samaria. Nobody even liked people from Samaria. It was very unlikely that he would want to help. But as he passed by, he noticed the man who was lying beaten and bloody on the side of the road. He felt sorry for him and wanted to help. He got off his donkey and bent down next to the man to get a closer look at the wounds. Gently, he wrapped bandages around the sores and helped him to his feet. THEN he carefully put the man on his very own donkey, and took him to the nearest hotel. He stayed with the man overnight and took care of him. Samaritan walk up to the man and pretend to help him up and walk away with him. The next morning the Samaritan had to leave, but he knew he couldn't take the man with him. When he paid the bill, he gave the innkeeper extra money, saying, "Take care of him, feed him, and make sure he has everything he needs. If he owes you any money after he gets well and leaves, write it down, and I will pay the bill the next time I come by." Narrator- after Jesus finished his story, he asked the lawyer, "Which of these three men was a neighbor to the stranger on the street?" The lawyer answered, Lawyer-"The one who stopped and helped him." Narrator - And Jesus said, "That's right. Now YOU go and do the same." Jesus- "That's right. Now YOU go and do the same." BACK

10 The Sheep and the Goats  31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.  34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'  37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'  40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'  41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'  44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'  45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'  46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.“ BACK

11 Widow’s Coin Widow Jesus Disciple 1 Disciple 2 Rich man Crowd Narrator

12 Widow’s Coin Narrator- Jesus and his disciples were sitting talking near the temple treasury, where people gave their money to the temple. First a rich man walked up to put his money in the collection box. Rich man- Oi, everyone, check out how rich and generous I am. I am going to donate £1 million pounds to the temple. (put some money into the box) Crowd- Oooooh, Aaaaaaah, wow. That is a lot of money, what a kind and generous man he must be. Narrator- Jesus did not look very impressed. Jesus- Do I look bothered? I am not because although that guy gave a lot of money, it is not a lot to him as he is very rich. Disciple 1- That was a lot of money though?

13 Widow’s Coin Jesus- Yes but he gave what he could easily afford.
Narrator- Next a very poor widow walked up to the collection box. Widow- (Walk to the box and empty purse into it) Narrator- She opened her purse and took out her last two coins, which were worth next to nothing, and put them in the box. Jesus- Who do you think gave more? Disciple 2- The man because he gave 1 million pounds. Jesus- Nope, the woman gave more because she gave all she had. It is not the size of your gifts which impress God but the sacrifice you make in giving that gift that matters. The woman gave everything. Narrator- The end.
