1 Jesus Confirms the Authority of God’s Word Luke 16:16-31
The Gospel of Luke Jesus Confirms the Authority of God’s Word Luke 16:16-31

2 [16] “The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it. [17] But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.

3 [18] “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

4 [19] “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. [20] And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, [21] who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores.

5 [22] The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side
[22] The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, [23] and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. [24] And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip . . .

6 the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ [25] But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. [26] And besides all this, . . .

7 between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ [27] And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house— [28] for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, . . .

8 lest they also come into this place of torment
lest they also come into this place of torment.’ [29] But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ [30] And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’

9 [31] He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’” Luke 16:16-31

10 God’s Word is Purposeful
(v ) “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Matthew 5:17-18 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

11 God’s Word is Purposeful
(v ) “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

12 God’s Word is Protective
“And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?” He answered, “Have you not read ” Matthew 19:3-4 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

13 God’s Word is Protective
“‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:5-6 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

14 God’s Word is Protective
“Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” Matthew 19:8-9 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

15 God’s Word is Proclaimed
(v ) “Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.” “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

16 God’s Word is Proclaimed
(v ) “And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.” “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

17 God’s Word is Proclaimed
(v ) “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

18 God’s Word is Proclaimed
(v ) “As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

19 God’s Word is Proclaimed
(v ) “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:14-17 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

20 Dietrich Bonhoeffer “The day will come … when people will once more be called to speak the Word of God in such a way that the world is changed and renewed. It will be in a new language, perhaps quite nonreligious language, but liberating and . . .

21 “redeeming like Jesus’s language, so that people will be alarmed, and yet overcome by its power—the language of a new righteousness and truth, a language proclaiming that . . .

22 “God makes peace with humankind and that God’s kingdom is
drawing near.”

23 They have Moses and the Prophets . . . If they do not hear them . . . .
