Which near by countries influenced Japan? What are some important features of the Nara Period? What is a pagoda and what was the purpose of pagodas? What are the origins of the pagoda and where did it come from?

3 Countries that influenced japan
China, India, and Korea influenced Japan The Chinese created pagodas, which is what the Japanese adopted Temple designs from India influenced Japanese temple designs The Korean government influenced Japan in their ways of governing

4 Important Features of Nara and the Nara Period
Nara was established in 710 and flourished until 784 During the Nara Period, the government supported Buddhism During the Nara Period, Nara had a highly developed culture Historical structures in Nara included remains of temples from when the city flourished Many of the temples have lasted to this day from 1,000 years ago Nara deer were thought of as holy and sacred animals and they protect the Nara Temple.

5 What is a pagoda and what was the purpose of pagodas?
A pagoda is a site of worship There are a variety of designs, number of floors, and heights when it comes to building a pagoda its tall structure was meant to represent the link between Heaven and Earth Pagodas represent the center of faith for both Buddhism and Shintoism pagodas were built to enshrine relics and statues

6 What are the origins of the Pagoda and where did it come from? (Extra)
pagodas can be traced back to stupas Stupas are domed shape monuments that were used to commemorate and house relics stupas contained Buddhist relics, the ashes of Buddhist monks, and it was used by Buddhists as a place of meditation the architectural designs of Chinese towers and pavilions are blended into the structures of pagodas many pagodas have a finial at the top of the structure that is made out of metal pagodas attract lightning strikes because of their height
