Where are we? Forest district in Zagnańsk is a part of Regional State Forest Directorate in Radom. The area of Zagnańsk forest management spreads on the central part of świętokrzyskie voivodeship, in area of three counties: kielecki, skarżyski and konecki.

Our forests The biggest forest group in region is Świętokrzyski Forest , where the fir dominates . There are also species of trees like: pine, spruce, beech and oak. Majority of forest stands are renewing naturally in the way simillar to primal way of forest renewal. Our region is in III KZPL that means it’s low chance of creating forest fire.

The first person to fly out to fire is a pilot from the airbase
What is forest fire? It’s an uncontroled fire spreading in the forest enviroment that causes complete forest destruction . In our area almost each forest fire is small (0,5ha). The first person to fly out to fire is a pilot from the airbase
5
What is the forest airbase?
It is a runway or other landing site that is equipped with aviation infrastructure for patrolling and putting down a forest fire. The forest district in Zagnańsk is serviced by two airlines: Piastów, Masłów.

Water tanks (8000l) Drilled well Water pump Airplane – Dromader M18B

Office part: Water tanks:
There is a radio station and map of Regional State Forest Directorate in Radom for pilots to know where they have to fly. Masłów indetification number is 8:8 and RDLP in Radom is 1:1. They use it for fast fire location where the fire exactly is. Water tanks: They are using it for holding water and pumping with gravity power help into a airplane. They are also equipted with pumps when there is no time to lose.
8
Airplane Dromader This is the only airplane that is used on this basis to put out the fires. It can take in one flight around 2000l of water and fly for 3,5 hours. It fills up the water tanks within 4 minutes and with the pump in 0.5 minutes
9
Plane flies with speed 200km per hour and have only around 1 second for taking decision to throw the water. The decision about pouring the water makse someone who has appropriate qualifications.
10
Pilot’s profile Pilot in Masłów is Jerzy Wieczorek. He has 30 years of experience in flying. He doesn’t fly only in Poland also in Chile, Portugal and Algeria. In our country he fight with the forest-fires.
11
First of all, every pilot must complete flying course
First of all, every pilot must complete flying course. Pilots live in their office at the airport, because they have to be ready for fire alarms and react very quickly. Airbase in Masłów

Interesting actions The aviator had many adventures in many countries like fighting the fires in Chile that have 3000ha of area. Additionaly those fires were in the mountains that makes even harder to put them out. Another action he took part in was the fight against the locust in Algeria using chemical supplies.
13
Fire-fighting actions
When the fire is spotted in forest pilot get information by the radio immediatelly and looks for the place on the map. After the fire alarm pilot in III {The degree of fire hazard in the forest} has only 5 minutes to start. 3 minutes before reaching the fire he must report to 1:1.
14
Pilot flies around and gives details about the fire then throws the water and then gets information about his next moves. Water is thrown from 15 metres above the trees. The pilot while firefight doesen’t have to comply to the aviation law.
