Percentage vs. Percentile
DEFINITIONS Growth vs. Attainment Percentage vs. Percentile Growth = Measured by calculating the student’s difference in scores between two points in time (Post-Test Score MINUS Pre-Test Score = Amount of Growth). It helps determine how much a student improved in a period of time. Attainment = Student’s achievement score measured and compared to other scores from one point in time. It does not take into account any previous scores. Percentile = Describes a relative performance measure (or ranking) in comparison with the sample. Example: 70th Growth Percentile (School’s growth is as good or better than 70% of schools nationally). This number should never be divided, averaged, multiplied, etc. Percentage = Describes an absolute measure of how many (i.e. students) meet certain criteria. Example: 70% of students met or exceeded their growth target (70 out of 100 students met or exceeded their growth target).

% Spring Projection Met vs. % Met/Exceeded Growth Target or Projection
DEFINITIONS % Spring Projection Met vs. % Met/Exceeded Growth Target or Projection % Spring Projection Met = The percentage of the student’s (or a group’s) Spring-Spring RIT Growth Projection Met or Achieved. Example: If Student A was projected to grow 5 RIT points, and Student A grew exactly 5 RIT points, Student A would have 100% of their Spring Projection Met (5/5=100%). If Student A instead grew 7 points, Student A would have 140% of their Spring Projection Met (7/5=140%). % Met/Exceeded Growth Target = The percentage of students that Met or Exceeded their Projected RIT score on the Spring Test.

Tips for successful Spring NWEA Testing
Test Students in the morning only Do not have anything scheduled after testing Block off at least 2 hours for each test Do not test both Reading and Math in the same week for each testing group Monitor students closely – make sure they do not rush through the test Bribe them (example: if they reach their goal, no more homework for remainder of the year) Give kids options (if they prefer to test at another time of day or test in a different environment than what you are offering, let them). Reinforce student goals! Help get them motivated in the weeks leading up to the test
